Here are signs that your boiler is broken:
Having a sump pump is one of the ways to waterproof your basement. A sump pump is a small pump installed in the lowest part of a basement or crawlspace. Its job is to help keep the area under the building dry and to prevent it from flooding. Usually, sump pumps are installed in specially constructed sump pits. Water flows into the sump pit through drains or by natural water migration through the soil. The sump pump’s job is to pump the water out of the pit and away from the building so the basement or crawlspace stays dry. Depending on a variety of things: where you live, your area’s water table level, the age of your home, you may or may not have a sump pump.
It is important to check your sump pump regularly to make sure that it is in proper working condition.
Here is a checklist you can follow:
You turn on your cold water and hot water comes out instead. Here are the top 6 reasons why this problem could be happening.
If the heat trap was installed wrong this could cause the problem. You should check to make sure that heat trap is placed in the water heater inlet. When you turn on your cold water in the morning, feel the pipe to see which part is hot.
Recirculating plumbing sends cold water in the plumbing back to the hot water heater, via the cold water line, while simultaneously bringing hot water to all fixtures on that plumbing line, in a matter of seconds. If you have this setup, don’t worry because it is normal for the hot water to come out the cold water top until the hot water reaches the desired temperature.
The hot water in the copper lines can heat up so much that it can effect the cold water lines. But this is only temporary because as soon as the cold water is turned on, it will go away.
The hot-water pipes might be too close to your cold-water pipes. Too add to this situation if the water heater is close to the pipes it could add to the problem.
If you notice that it only happens in the winter you should check to see if the ventilation ducts of your forced-air heating system are touching the cold water pipes.
If you have an water expansion tank located near your water heater then it is possible that you need a pressure lowering valve or a one-way valve in your water meter. The water meter is the device that measures the volume of water delivered to your property. Another possible reason could be that the thermostat in your immersion heater has failed. An immersion heater is an electric water heater that sits inside a hot water cylinder. If the thermostat is not the problem then the problem could stem from the pipes layout not being correct. Many experts believe that such a problem may be due to the thermostat in the immersion heater. The thermostat can fail and this leads to hot water overheating and boiling over into the cold-water tap, making the stored water warm. Within a short time, this comes out as warm water via the cold-water tap. If the thermostat is fine, it could be due to incorrect layout of the pipes.
World Plumbing Day is an international event on March 11 initiated by the World Plumbing Council celebrating the important role plumbing plays in the health and safety of modern society.
Denver General Plumbing Heating & Air recognizes why World Plumbing Day is important.
Every year, 3.1 million people, most under 5 years old, die of preventable diseases caused by poor sanitation and lack of access to clean drinking water. The World Health Organization and the World Plumbing Council have developed goals and initiatives to provide access to clean, safe water for these people.

Boilers and water heaters both heat water. But the differnce is that they both do it for very different uses and in very different ways. A boiler is not a water heater, nor vice-versa and this in important to know when Denver General Plumbing Heating and Air comes out to troubleshoot.
A water heater is a tank in which water is both heated and stored, and that last word is probably the key difference, since some water heaters approach boilers in their ability to heat water.
A boiler is basically a box through which water flows to be heated very fast. A boiler can heat a whole complex, or a pool, or a hot tub. The controls and pumps that are used for boilers are more complex than those for water heaters.
